Creative assets were scattered across Google Drive with no shared system for finding or managing them. Instead of replacing the existing storage, I designed and built a layer on top of it that indexes and organizes the files while keeping them where they already are.

The key decision was to separate asset management from asset storage. AI-assisted metadata makes new assets easier to organize, while search, filters and collections make the library easier to navigate and maintain.

The result is a focused DAM without the cost and complexity of moving files into another system. It keeps the existing infrastructure intact while adding the structure, search and sharing capabilities the team was missing.

  • Every filter facet is derived from the data itself, not hard-coded, so the taxonomy grows with the library. One index: search, filter, group, grid or list.

  • One panel per asset: metadata, tags, collections, and sharing together. Thumbnails and downloads proxy from Drive on demand, the app stores only pointers.

Built for the 90%, not the 10%

Commercial DAM platforms start in the hundreds of dollars a month and lock the library inside someone else's product. Asset Hub runs on free tiers, keeps files in your own Drive, and costs roughly $0/month for a small team.

  • Grouped into campaigns and brand kits, nested, with cover images. Hand over a whole collection instead of picking files one by one.

A persistent basket you drag assets into, then act on the whole set: share, collect, or batch-edit.

  • Two sharing models, one surface: instant public links with expiry and view tracking, or named partners who see exactly what's granted.

  • A named external partner signs in via a one-time magic link and sees only what was granted, no Google account or login required.

Admin, editor, sharer, viewer, all DB-managed. Viewers request an upgrade, admins approve in-app.

  • Paste a Drive folder link. It scans recursively, skips duplicates, and Gemini reads each file's name and thumbnail to pre-fill title, tags, channel, and locale. No AI key? It falls back to regex extraction, intake still works for free.

  • Tags are grouped (Theme, Format, Season, Usage) and usage-counted, keeping the taxonomy curated instead of sprawling.
